Your Child at Cumnor Pre-School

Settling in

You are encouraged to stay at nursery until your child is happy for you to leave. This may take several sessions so don't worry if your child takes longer than others to settle. You know your child best, so if you wish to go at once the decision is yours.

Key Person

When your child starts nursery a member of staff will be allocated to take a special interest in him or her, especially during the settling-in period. As neither individual staff nor children necessarily attend every session your child's key person may not be there every day your child attends, but we do our best! Please talk to the key person or the Manager throughout the year if you wish to know about how your child is settling in and/or their progress. Time will be set aside for informal chats with your child's key person.

Keeping In Touch With Your Child's Progress

Staff keep detailed records on the progress of your child and are happy to discuss them with you at any time. When your child starts nursery you will be asked to start this process by completing a form entitled 'All about Me'. Your child's key person will then seek an opportunity to have a more detailed chat about your child's interests and specific needs.

.

Nursery staff arrange periodic sessions to update parents on their child's progress. If you would like to discuss anything outside of these sessions please contact the nursery and the staff will be happy to make an appointment to meet with you. Communicating regularly with the nursery helps us to provide the best care for your child as children may have different needs at different times. The more we can understand those needs the better the service we can deliver.

Background Information

Please feel free to tell the Manager if there is anything that might affect your child such as a death of a relative or pet, or a parent being away from home for a long time. This will help the staff understand if the child seems upset or unsettled.

Notice for changing sessions

Please give half a term’s notice if you wish to drop a chosen session or withdraw your child from nursery. This will allow us time to reallocate the place to a child on the waiting list. If you do not give the required notice then you will be charged fees for the half term’s sessions.

If you wish to change or add sessions for your child, you should email the Administrator who will contact you when a suitable place becomes available.
